Competency. Integrity. Value.

Who Can Apply

Applications to the Interim Measures Alarm Fund must be made by those who hold responsibility for the building’s fire safety.

This typically includes the Responsible Person or Responsible Entity, as defined under fire safety legislation. In many cases, this role is fulfilled by the building owner, freeholder, or managing agent acting on their behalf.

Who Can Apply for IMAF Funding?

An authorised representative may also apply, provided they have the appropriate authority to act for the Responsible Entity. This often applies where managing agents are instructed to oversee building safety and coordinate improvement works. Evidence of this authority may be required as part of the application process.

Application Responsibility and Legal Accountability

The requirement for applications to be made by a responsible party reflects the legal framework surrounding fire safety. Responsibility for maintaining safe conditions within a building cannot be transferred to residents or leaseholders, and this extends to the application for funding. Leaseholders are therefore not able to apply directly to the fund, even if they are affected by the costs associated with interim measures. Instead, residents are expected to engage with the building owner or managing agent to ensure that appropriate steps are taken. This includes progressing applications, appointing contractors, and overseeing the installation of fire alarm systems where funding is approved.

This structure ensures that applications are managed by those with the authority to make decisions about the building and to implement the required works. It also helps maintain accountability throughout the process, ensuring that systems are delivered in line with both funding requirements and legal responsibilities.
