Eligibility

Eligibility for the Interim Measures Alarm Fund is based on a defined set of criteria that determine whether a building can access funding.

These criteria are intended to ensure that the fund is applied to buildings where there is a clear and evidenced need for interim fire safety measures.

Which Buildings Are Eligible for IMAF Funding?

To qualify, a building must be located in England and used as residential or student accommodation. This includes a wide range of building types, from apartment blocks to purpose-built student housing, provided they meet the required conditions.

A key requirement is that the building is currently reliant on a waking watch arrangement or a simultaneous evacuation strategy. This indicates that a fire risk has been identified which requires active management. Supporting documentation must be in place, such as a fire risk assessment or a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls, confirming the need for an interim alarm system.

Funding Criteria and Application Review

The building must also not have received funding through previous schemes aimed at replacing waking watch arrangements. This ensures that funding is directed towards buildings that have not yet benefited from earlier programmes. Eligibility is assessed through the Cladding Safety Scheme platform managed by Homes England. Each application is reviewed to confirm that the criteria are met and that the proposed approach is appropriate.

These requirements are designed to ensure that funding is targeted effectively, supporting buildings where the need for an interim fire alarm system is both clear and justified.
