Helping a client save money by providing advice
NPG Fire Safety provided consultancy services to a client in Cumbria who owns a paper mill factory. We enabled the client to save significant time, effort, and money which was achieved by…
As a responsible person, your legal duty is to ensure that your staff are appropriately trained.
Last year, we conducted a risk assessment on a large factory. One of the key recommendations of the assessment was that, due to the complexity and size of the building, the fire wardens needed comprehensive practical training.
Due to the client’s shift patterns, we conducted several out-of-hours training courses, which included practical training in the use of fire extinguishers.
Unfortunately, just a few weeks later, a fire occurred at the factory. The client informed us that, thanks to the training, they were able to control the fire effectively. Without the training, the fire could have spread, potentially leading to a catastrophic incident. Feedback from the staff revealed that they would not have felt confident handling the situation without the recent practical training.
We feel that this demonstrates the importance of practical training as it better prepares staff in a real incident. This incident also highlights a critical point: while many may think a fire won’t happen to them, the reality is that fires do still occur in well managed buildings. Proper training ensures staff can respond swiftly and effectively, mitigating damage and safeguarding lives.
