Helping a Care Home to Achieve Excellent Evacuation Times
With care homes having such a high risk of life and a high duty of care, building owners should do everything they can to ensure residents are evacuated in the event of…
NPG Fire Safety provided consultancy services to a client in Cumbria who owns a paper mill factory. We enabled the client to save significant time, effort, and money which was achieved by choosing a knowledgeable, accredited risk assessor.
Our client’s insurance company made a requirement of them to install a sprinkler system to protect their assets. Quotes for the system exceeded £1 million, prompting the client to seek our expert advice for an alternative solution.
After conducting a thorough fire risk assessment, we determined that the sprinkler system was not required or justified for life safety. The factory was already equipped with an L1 fire alarm system and had suitable means of escape, providing adequate protection for the building’s occupants. While insurers wanted the system for property protection, it was not a legal requirement under the Fire Safety Order.
We presented our findings to the insurer on behalf of our client, and they accepted the L1 system as sufficient protection and the client was able to get insured.
Fortunately, our client sought advice from our trusted and accredited fire safety specialists, avoiding unnecessary expenses and extended disruption to their business.
